I finally had to take some Magic Pills. And I think they just kicked in.
We spent the day in/on Mykonos. It was stunning. It's a Greek island in the middle of the Cyclades, a group of islands roughly circling the sacred island of Delos where Apollo and Artemis were mythically born. See how much I'm learning?
These days, Mykonos is mostly known as a see-and-be-seen schmancy vacation spot, favored by Jackie O among others. It is heavily dotted with white stucco buildings with bright blue accents – just like the postcards. The streets are all small alleyways, charming and picturesque and visited by much photographed kitties. The maze of alleys was intentional as the only defense the island had from early plunderers. The Mykonosians figured dead-ends and twists and turns would at least slow the bad guys down. Today, it leaves a tourist the magical experience of simply meandering about with even more wonder and safety than in Venice, at least according to me. Rumors are the nightlife in/on Mykonos is rather impressive. Sadly, I can't verify that since it's not yet dark and we're already swaying our way towards Rhodes, our next Greek island stop.
We left port at about 5:30pm. About a half-hour later, Mom and I discovered the most entertaining activity on the ship thus far: pool wave surfing! Mind you, we simply watched the surfers but we laughed loudly in vicarious fun. It never occurred to me what might happen in a cruise ship's swimming pool when the ocean waters get a bit choppy. And it never occurred to me why the pools all have little walls built around them. Now I know. I could try to describe it but the video is much more fun. Mom and I almost dug out our bathing suits to join in the fun. We decided to head back to our cabin to dig out our Magic Pills instead.
I'm feeling much better but I think we'll be skipping dinner in the dining room tonight. It's “French Night” and the thought of frogs legs and duck a l'orange inspire returned queasiness. We might try to do some laundry, although we're wondering if the machines will get off-balance with the waves. Such worries.
OH, and did I mention the practically orgasmic baklava we had for lunch? WE LOVE GREEK FOOD!

Yes, but did you get lost while in Mykonos? Inquiring minds want to know!!!
Oh, not really. It's really too small to get lost. Did we always know exactly where we were? No. Did we care? No.
