It’s usually our weekly Local Rag that provides rural nuggets worth commenting on. But last week, I had to do a double-take at the newspaper’s header to confirm I was indeed reading the more…ummm… rigorous paper of our region.
Some might remember that the end of 2010 also brought an end to our decades of subscribing to a newspaper. Coincidentally, about a week after we no longer saw Judi’s delivery headlights at 4:15am, our mailbox revealed a weekly summary of very local news from that very same paper we had just abandoned. I guess they are trying to compete with the Local Rag for all news free and provincial.
In any case, after reading about the uproar ensuing from new management at the local Jack-in-the-Box and a shed (my people call it “outbuilding”) going up in flames, I turned to pages 4 and 5 and saw these two headlines nearly side-by-side:
“Carrying guns is OK in county parks” and “15 Tips for Catching Spring Chinook”
Ms. Bradshaw, we aren’t in the big city any more.
The somewhat horrified will be relieved to know that it remains illegal to possess a bow and arrow or a crossbow in our county’s parks. And wrapping a sardine around a K14 or K15 Kwikfish and washing your hands with Lemon Joy to eliminate pet smells will both help you snag the salmon that is thiiiiis big. And yes, I had to Google “Kwikfish."
