The end of Deere season

It only took six weeks to get our not-so-trusty John Deere 318 back. Yes, it finally came home to die.

Well, actually, thanks to more money than we agreed to pay, the mower seemingly starts and runs at the moment. We’ve only tested it once for fear of breaking it again. An ad goes in The Local Rag next week to see if we can unload Master 318 on someone mechanical who is seeking a new hobby.

Our research during the Ignore & Stonewall phase of the repair revealed our mower is just a teensy bit older than the 8 years we were assuming. Indeed, our 318 is nearly a national treasure at 24 years old. It was built in 1983. You know, when Regan was President. In his first term.

So it appears the 318 really was a pretty trusty machine. And it most certainly had some great mowing years. Too bad we didn’t get to see any of them.

Remember that house with the wagon wheel (see June 2 post)? The new owners just moved in. We saw the formerly suburban husband using a push mower over the weekend. Too bad we’ve already met them and like them. Otherwise, Master 318 might already have a new home.
