Fair Watch 2007 - Day 2

We had a late arrival at the fair today. We arrived at about 5:15 and then attended a concert from 7:30-9:00, so we were a bit limited in the opportunities for Fun, Animals Petted, and Food Consumed. Today's summary:

FUN:
  • Camel watching - Abby the Camel made her Fair Debut today. She wasn't all that happy to be there. She paced her apparently too small pen and talked A LOT. She also made all her llama relatives a little nervous. The llamas were humming a bit. They do that when they are curious or edgy. I tried to stay close by for reassurance.
  • Piglet avoidance - Little pigs like to eat feet and shoes. I didn't know this until I was standing in the petting pen and read the warning sign. By then, my left leather shoe was covered in pig snot. For future reference, 409 is a handy pig snot remover.
  • The "New" Cars concert - The planned highlight of today's visit. There were 2 original band members (guitar and keyboards), a drummer from The Tubes, a bassist I've never heard of, and Todd Rundgren filling in for Ric Ocasek. It was a sad little concert. Our county isn't much for that rock and roll business (last night's Sara Evans country ho-down looked mostly packed). We got to the grandstands 15 minutes before concert time and found great seats. About 2 songs in, employees were walking through the "free with fair admission" seats, offering free tickets up front with all the folks who paid $20 for the privilege. Only about a dozen people decided the offer was worth taking. All in all, I only recognized about 5 songs in the hour and a half songfest. I wasn't the only one. People started to leave after about the 3rd unrecognizable song. Surprisingly, there was an encore. The stomping and clapping were quickly half-hearted, though. The band was wise not to linger back stage. At one point during the main set, Rob teased that I should get a souvenir t-shirt, pointing at the stand by the exit. Before the concert ended, we noticed the stand had already been dismantled. Later, while enjoying my corn, I noticed a teenage girl had on a concert t-shirt. This first begged the question, "HOW did she get one of those?" followed quickly by "WHY did she get one of those??"

ANIMALS PETTED:

FOOD CONSUMED:
