Yes, Tabasco is on the list

We are really looking forward to tomorrow, it being the first official day of winter. Maybe we’ll get some (more) snow!

We’re up to 7” of fluffy whiteness on the ground so far. The wind is picking up and a big ugly wind and snow storm is apparently heading our way. Right now. I’m typing as fast as I can before the power goes out.

We’re weather wimps, we admit it. So we haven’t been off our hill since Tuesday. We have taken a few refreshing walks in teen and twenty temps just to remind ourselves that being cooped up like chickens isn’t really that bad after all.

We have some neighbors who have jobs that made them feel obligated to slalom down our Black Diamond hill. They’ve been kind enough to report back things like “chains definitely required” “a car is already abandoned at the bottom of the hill” and just this afternoon “we threw a chain on an ice patch and suddenly were going back the direction we had just come from.” We are feeling less wimpy and more sage with each report.

So while our newspaper delivery woman, our mail delivery woman, and our neighbors are all dutifully attempting to carry on their business as usual, we here at Woodhaven have been doing what we do best: research.

Although my data is still incomplete, I can give an early report that a maple syrup/amaretto combo is a spectacular topping to a snowball. Kaluha, not so much. Rob has invented two libations so far. The Snowgarita is simply fabulous and is best served with fresh powdery snow delivered immediately to the glass. It is lovely with tacos. And the Sno-ca-cola is a great refreshment that practically makes itself when a plastic cup of cola is plopped into a snowdrift while shoveling a driveway.

We have a few more concoctions to try involving Frangelico, Tuaca, and chocolate syrup. Thankfully we have lots of our base ingredient to work with. Spreadsheet is in full swing.
